Digital marketing is one of the easiest services to oversell and underdeliver, mostly because clients often don’t know what questions to ask before signing. Here’s what we’d recommend asking any agency, including us.
Ask What They Actually Report On
Rankings and impressions are easy to show and easy to inflate. Ask specifically whether monthly reporting includes leads, cost per lead, and pipeline value — not just traffic and position tracking.
Ask Who Actually Does the Work
Some agencies sell a senior strategist in the pitch meeting and hand execution to a junior team or subcontractor. Ask directly who will be managing your account day-to-day.
Ask About Contract Flexibility
Long lock-in contracts with no early exit option are a red flag, especially from an agency confident in its own results. Month-to-month or short-term initial contracts signal more confidence.
Ask for Real Examples, Not Just Testimonials
Testimonials are easy to cherry-pick. Ask for a specific example of a client in a similar industry and what actually changed in their numbers.
Ask What Happens If Results Don’t Show Up
No ethical agency can guarantee rankings, but a good one should have a clear plan for what happens if the first few months underperform — not just “give it more time.”
